Ciara Lunny is perfectly happy. Married to airline pilot Jake for nearly twenty years she has never wanted for anything. With her hobbies including shopping and keeping herself beautiful, Ciara has never needed to use her brain, letting Jake take care of all the “boring stuff”.
At a dinner party one evening Ciara witnesses an intimate look between her husband and twenty-one-year-old Roisin. Appalled that her husband could be interested in someone as mousy as Roisin, Ciara confronts Jake. She doesn’t get the answer she wants to hear as Jake admits he is lost and needs to “find himself”.
Jake moves out and Ciara is left wondering how on earth he could be unhappy with her. Trying plastic surgery to woo him back, she is genuinely bewildered when her plan fails and enlists the help of her American neighbour, Lee, to formulate her plan for winning Jake again.
Ryan’s novel is an easy read but a frustrating one. Ciara is such a blonde bimbo that it is difficult to empathise with her and Ryan’s writing is not good enough to make you want to care.
