Andie and her sister Jin are chalk and cheese. They’ve never really seen eye to eye and while Jin is married to a very wealthy businessman, Andie is happy with her career as a music teacher.
When their mother Cora comes back from a Caribbean cruise with a handsome young man on her arm, they immediately unite in horror. Who is this man? What is he doing with their mother?
Cora has been widowed for over a year and all she wants is a bit of fun. Desperately lonely since her husband died, she is amused by her daughters ‘concern’ about her new relationship. She doesn’t care though, because for the first time in a long time she feels loved and wanted.
The dynamic between the sisters and their mother is what O’Flanagan does best. Andie and Jin finally unite in their horror over their mother’s new boyfriend and Cora tries to build her relationship with her daughters.
O’Flanagan’s characters are both believable and likable, and you can’t help but share the two sisters’ view that anyone but him would do for their mother.
If you have enjoyed any of Sheila O’Flanagan’s eleven other novels you’ll enjoy this. If you haven’t read anything by her, this is a very good place to start.
