Pamela and Dave have been married for seven years, meeting while in college and surviving together as two starving artists. Eventually the world wore them down and now they have jobs as a hospital administrator and interior designer. After five years of gruelling IVF treatment, and still no sign of a longed for baby, their marriage is most definitely on the rocks. So, when Dave announces that he wants to sell up, abandon London and run an organic farm out in the middle of nowhere, Pamela knows he has finally lost his marbles.

Waving goodbye to designer shops and takeaway food on demand, Pamela follows her husband and is prepared to give her marriage one last chance. But as Dave becomes obsessed with manure and eco friendly living, Pamela’s obsession becomes local farmer Lachlan Murray. Although Lachlan is married, Pamela, immersed in her own misery, doesn’t stop to think about the pain of others. Her London friends think she’s insane – but how far is Pamela prepared to go for a baby? And how much more can her marriage survive?

How Was It For You? is light hearted relief. Hilarious in parts, it addresses real issues without ever taking on too serious a note. Carmen Reid has done an excellent job with her third novel. The Techie
