Children of Eve is Deirdre Purcell’s tenth novel and is following in the wake of nine best-sellers including her most recent book, Last Summer in Arcadia. It’s a tough act to follow, yet once again I think Deirdre Purcell has a best-seller on her hands.

The story’s main character, Eve Moraghan, abandoned her children when they were toddlers. Married to an alcoholic abusive man and penniless, Eve is unable to cope and leaves her three children – Arabella, Willow and Rowan – in a park in Dublin. Since that day over thirty years ago, none of her three children have heard from her. That is until Arabella receives a call from an American, telling her that her mother has been in an accident and desperately wants to see her children.

A debate ensues and cold, calculating Willow feels that they owe their mother nothing while kind-hearted Arabella is desperate to meet the woman whom only she has memories of. Their brother Rowan, a homeless drug addict, is nowhere to be found, but time is ticking on and a decision has to be made.

Before they know it Arabella and Willow are on a plane, on their way to meet the woman who abandoned them more than thirty years ago.

Children of Eve delves into each of the main characters and brings their deepest fears to the surface. Addressing the issues of abandonment, alcoholism and life in an orphanage, Purcell puts a human face on each of her characters and has developed a story that will tug at your heartstrings.
