While recently on holidays in Italy, one of my travelling companions produced the Lonely Planet Italian phrasebook. This little book is an absolute must have while traversing the Italian countryside. Filled with useful phrases and colloquialisms it is guaranteed to get you through every situation imaginable.

The book is divided into various categories – shopping, eating out, practical, going out, sports and romance. The book not only gives you direct translations, it also gives you the pronunciation of each word and includes a 2000-word two-way dictionary.

We all know the Italians love to gesticulate, so the gestures section of the book proved especially useful, particularly while driving on Italian roads!

Although the most used phrase for us was probably “how much isÂ…” my companions and I were disappointed that the holiday ended before we got to use “Posso accomagnarti a casa” (can I take you home!).

Highly recommended if you’re planning on visiting Italy in the near future. The Techie
